How to Play Piano - 4 Common Mistakes Beginners Make

!±8± How to Play Piano - 4 Common Mistakes Beginners Make

Learning how to play piano has got to be one of the best choices a person can make. It has been said that piano playing helps a person out in so many ways. It teaches the piano player hand coordination, motor skills, creativity and much more. I believe that we should start learning musical instruments at an early age. That way it can help us later on in life.

A lot of mistakes are made when we first start learning to play a new instrument such as the piano. This is very common and we shouldn't feel like we should know it all from the beginning. Making mistakes is part of learning and the best thing about making mistakes is that we learn from them.

I will point out 4 common mistakes that a lot of beginners make and you can rectify them if you possess them. Increase the knowledge and awareness of these mistakes is the purpose of this article.

So here are the 4 common mistakes the piano players make:

- Sitting with incorrect posture

We all know that we need to sit in front of the piano when we play. We could stand but that would get pretty tiring over a few hours. The main problem with everyone's posture is that they tend to hunch over when they play. We must ensure that our backs are straight when we play the piano. Learning how to play piano is a great thing, but we shouldn't damage our backs in the process.

When we sit in front of the piano we should sit up straight and in a position that is similar to sitting at a desk in front of a computer. The hands should lay in a comfortable position in front of you. Arms should be level with the ground and you should play with curved fingers.

You should imagine that you are holding an egg in the palm of your hand. Keep your fingers nicely curled when playing and imagine yourself typing on a keyboard. The back should be straight and we should never hunch over.

- Buying a piano that is too cheap

The financial crisis has hit the entire world but this shouldn't mean that we buy super cheap pianos. The amount of work that goes into making a piano is enormous. On a typical piano there are 88 keys which all play their own unique note. A good piano will cost you roughly 00.

Spending 0 for a piano is most likely going to get you one that doesn't have the right amount of keys or doesn't sound right. In the case of pianos, the higher the price the higher the quality. You know that you are getting a quality product if you pay a few thousand for a piano. I'm not asking you to get a piano that cost tens of thousands of dollars, I'm just asking you to get something decent.

- Playing without a metronome

Every piano player needs a metronome. A metronome is just a thing that makes a sound at a set constant rate. You set the tempo on the metronome and you then play the piano following that tempo. Learning how to play piano is hard if you don't follow the correct tempo.

A lot of beginner players make the mistake of playing too fast or too slow. Using a metronome you can easily find out how fast you are playing and if you are playing at the correct speed.

- Learning with a traditional piano teacher

In my opinion I believe that traditional piano teachers don't offer as much material and help that online learning courses can offer. Learning online is a great way to learn how to play piano. It will save you a lot of money and the learning flexibility is enormous.

In conclusion, a lot of beginner players make these 4 common mistakes. Now that you know about them you can avoid them.
